Not the Hollywood Women present ‘The Fitting Room’
Part of the Welsh Dance Festival, Chapter Arts’ Centre Cardiff.
The Fiend of Fashionis a caricature which was based on a William Morris illustration.
The caricature represents women in the 18th Century who wore clothing such as corsets & crinolines which distorted and disfigured their bodies, restricting movement and ultimately their everyday lives.
The Blue Loom is an instrument that was designed & made by me, the basis for the instrument was an old piano which I found in a skip. I dismantled it, turned it on it’s side and created a sound box behind the strings. The visual intention was to make it appear like a harp or a loom. The musician was influenced by someone working on a loom, making repetitive and percussive sounds. The composer produced the score especially for the sculpture.
